Óbidos: FÓLIO – International Literary Festival
The FÓLIO International Literary Festival of Óbidos returns for its 10th edition in 2025, running from October 9th to 19th. The festival will transform the historic medieval village of Óbidos – designated as a UNESCO City of Literature—into a vibrant hub for global storytelling. Under the theme “Fronteiras” (Borders), this year’s festival explores the intersections of cultures, ideas, and narratives, questioning boundaries in literature and beyond.
For the first time, two Nobel Prize in Literature winners will appear together: Belarusian author Svetlana Alexievich (Nobel 2015), known for her polyphonic non-fiction works like Voices from Chernobyl, and South African novelist J.M. Coetzee (Nobel 2003), celebrated for novels such as Disgrace and Life & Times of Michael K. Their sessions promise profound discussions on human experience and societal divides.
The festival will offer a total of 27 exhibitions, intimate author talks, book launches, live readings, musical performances, educational workshops, bohemian nights and much more. For more details, visit the official FÓLIO website or Óbidos Municipality page.
Come visit the festival and stay at the Hedone property in nearby Playa Del Rey.
