Sintra – National History Museum

The Sintra National History Museum (Museu de História Natural de Sintra), located in the historic center of Sintra, offers visitors a captivating journey through the natural history of the region. Inaugurated in 2009, the museum features a rich collection of fossils, minerals, and geological specimens, many donated by private collector Miguel Barbosa.

Key exhibits cover a wide range of geological periods, with particular emphasis on the Jurassic fossils found in the Sintra area. Visitors can explore dinosaur remains, fossilized marine creatures, and unique local minerals, all presented through interactive displays and 3D models.

The “Exhibition of the Minerals Collection of the Sintra Natural History Museum (Miguel Barbosa Collection)” is running until 29th December. The exhibition comprises 12 display cases with minerals representing the different classes (native elements, sulphides and sulphosalts, oxides and hydroxides, halides, carbonates, phosphates, sulphates, tungstates and silicates).

You are welcomed to visit the Museum and stay at the Hedone property in Galamares, just 10-minute drive away from Sintra center.
